TAKING A BREAK 10/17/2016

Well since I'm doing the Dentist thingee,  I'm just going to suck it up and take a break from riding for a while. Yes my legs are having a major temper tantrum, oh well.  I just happy I was able to ride as much as I did.  The tooth that has the crack horizontally along the bottom of the gum line is got to be pulled out.  Oh well.  Well I can look at this way, I'm not losing pounds, I'm losing grams.  LOL
And on top of all this my poor, poor bike finally had a break down of it's own.  The back break are DOA, gone along with my front breaks.  On my last ride I forgot to mention I rode out with no front, the back breaks were still working that is untile the last 3 miles of the ride home. And when I got home and park the bike the front tire went flat.  Whew!  My bike needs some TLC soon.  As for the new bike.   If you know me I'm not a person that runs out and buy something instantly.  Yes I was excited, but I did some more rational thinking about the bike and I'm so glad I did.    Yes the bike is awesome and cool, but here is the worry.    All this hard work is a result of having a good old trusty
Diamond Back.  This is what my bike looks.   This bike is a lot heavier than the other bike I wanted. Lighter is not necessarily better. Yeah you might go faster, but let me explain.   Thing of a weight lifter, lifting weights, when he get's better he dose not move to lighter weights?  He starts lifting heaver weights.    Well if I got a lighter bike I would not be doing my legs any favors.  Especially with the hill climbing I've been doing.  No I'm not going to go with a heavy bike, but I do want to stick with my bike and may be get a new one really soon.   It's not too heavy nor too light, but it give me the work out I want to maintain my legs and keep them happy.  Like I said faster is fun, but it's not smart.   I've been toying with the idea of doing competitive bike racing  ( ok I got some ways to go, no I'm not delustional).  But if I want to be serious about it I got to ride with a slightly heavier bike.   Getting a light bike is not going to do me any good, building up my leg guns.  My hubby thinks the racing idea is a good idea.  But know my only problem to solve is finding people who will ride with me, so I can get use to riding with people.  No one want to ride with someone who dose not fit the perfect profile.   And I get my share of glares and stair's.  But my reward is the expression on their face as I leave them in the dust. Well not all of them.  LOL       Can't wait to get back on the bike.

  1. I feel you there! I ride a 1986 Schwinn World Tourist (30 years old) and it's not light! It's got fenders, the frame is steel but it looks kind of like the bike you have above. People tell me all of the time, you need to get a new, lighter, better bike. I tell them I love my bike just like it is. It gives me a good workout, I can do hills and I don't have splash marks up my back! Lol! It's made better than most bikes out there and I've owned it all this time. The lighter, high perform bikes I see people riding on weekends is ridiculous! Just saying....

  2. It's all marketing and one up man ship. Phttt... Stick too your gun's. I've seen several people decked out in gear and own the $$$$ bikes and their riding 9 to 10 miles an hour. Really. When I first got my Jersey it did not fit at all, but when it did I though to my self if I'm going to were this I better own it and ride like I mean it. No strolling along rides, like I see so many people do. But that's me. But you are totally right about the preform bikes. Lighter is not better, it's lazier. I read a article in a cycling magazine and it was on how to go faster with out training. Huh! Their a group of people that what to be lazy, but be able to show off. (Face palm)
